In November 2017, a new Ms Galaxy UK was crowned and it was none other than York local Jo Clarke! Resplendent in her well-deserved crown and stunning Jovani dress (which she of course found right here at Molly Browns), we'd like to say a huge congratulations to the inimitable Ms Clarke!
What you may not have expected however is that this dazzling beauty is also a PhD-holding Forensic Psychologist, foster carer, animal lover and devoted mother who runs her own company providing resilience training to all who need it.

Jo's lovely daughter Madi entered the world of pageantry at the age of 14, and discovered her first perfect dress in our York boutique. She and Jo (52) have since become frequent visitors to Molly Browns and often source their beautiful pageant gowns right here.
Accompanying Madi on her pageant career, Jo was intially somewhat surprised to find the people of the pageant circuit to be supportive and empowering of young women, subverting the stereotype that some might expect. She admits that she herself went in with a certain opinion and indeed was met with criticism from disapproving friends. However, so taken was she with the positive energy of pageantry that when the opportunity presented itself to enter herself in the Ms Galaxy UK competition, Professor Clarke seized the chance to thwart convention and take part in something that would never have occurred to her before. "Life's too short not to do the things that intrigue or interest you." she asserts, "I had so much fun!".
Winning the competition in November was a wonderful experience and one she will surely never forget. So does she plan to take part in further competitions in the future? "I've proved my point" says Jo, confident and proud of her queenly status disproving those early misconceptions. She will of course continue to attend competitions with Madi and support what she considers a positive, charitable and empowering cause. "You have to be true to yourself and not be fettered by others opinions of you." As part of Petros, her non-profit resilience training company, she meets a lot of women (and men) who are overly concerned and suffer anxiety over other's opinions of them. She recalls one of her favourite sentiments "What other people think of me is none of my business."
